Does your county have a limit as to how many times a client/vendor will be contacted regarding an outstanding check? Does your county eventually just cancel the payment? Are you willing to share your policy for outstanding checks?

I have added under the tab Handy Weblinks some links to the Unclaimed Property website and the Holder Report Guide for 2022. These documents should help you out with outstanding checks.

We also use the Unclaimed Property process with the state once a year and only contact clients and vendors on uncashed warrants that fall within the given timeline for the process. We do not contact anyone otherwise. Caleb-Itasca Co
ReplyDeleteAt Anoka County if the check is a significant dollar amount we will attempt to contact the vendor, however it is not required that we do so. Otherwise we will follow the state guidelines around unclaimed property and remit the unclaimed funds to the State. Accounts Payable checks have a three year dormancy period and payroll has a 1 year dormancy period.
