I
am looking to compile a directory of Rep Payee companies throughout the
state.
Due
to the April Changes in Social Security Rules a rep payee must be located
within 70 miles from the individual that is being served.
This
means counties that place people further than 70 miles from the individual that
is serving rep payee are having to locate someone else to serve. It
is also affecting private individuals who are coming to the counties to find
someone that could serve.
I
have received calls from other counties seeking information on who is available
in our area (Beltrami) and have passed on the information. Our county
does not want to serve as rep payee for individuals that we are not doing case
management on so we refer them out if they are not case managed here.

In Cook County, the Care Center (assisted living), provides rep-payee services for only its residents. Our PHHS staff provides rep-payee services to clients for which we are also doing case management. To our knowledge, there are no other entities providing rep-payee services in our county.
ReplyDeleteDouglas County has Payee Central and Vested Financial. Our agency provides rep payee services for just a couple of people. Most others are referred to one of these two places.

Also to clarify the 75 mile rule is only for nonprofits not the local and state agencies that are serving. We have clients that we do not do case management on and have been being served by payee central and other companies that are having difficulties with the new rule.

A non-governmental organizational payee requesting to charge a fee must be communitybased. It is community based if it meets all of the following criteria:
1.
The organization’s physical business office and its beneficiaries' residence addressesare located within the same FO service area. If the organization serves beneficiariesoutside its FO service area, the organization’s physical business office must be within75 miles of its beneficiaries’ servicing FO(s).
Note: In special circumstances in remote areas, the Regional Office may determinethat an organization meets this criterion if the organization’s physical businessoffice is located in the same parent district office service area as the beneficiaries'or an FO service area adjacent to its beneficiaries' FO service area.
