MNE-Connect Question

 10-14-21

Does anyone else use MNE-Connect to upload their MA Transportation files?  We are having issues with our uploads to MNE-Connect.  On the PMI Column, there are no “0’s” in front of the PMI when we save it as a CSV Comma Delimited file.  MNE-Connect’s system used to add the “0’s” to the front of it to make the 8 digits when it was submitted to DHS.  Now it is not, and we are getting denials.  We have been doing it this way as long as I have been here.  The Accounting Tech tried adding an apostrophe in front and adding the 0’s but it takes them out when it is saved.  Any ideas?

  1. Hi Brenda,

A couple things. First, I build the file as an Excel spreadsheet and only when I am ready to upload do I save a copy as the CSV Comma Delimited file. Once I've saved my CSV, I DO NOT OPEN it again, because if you do open a CSV the leading zeros will be dropped. If you want to look at the CSV file before uploading into MNE-Connect, you can open it in Notepad.

Because my PMI column is formatted as Text when I receive the file, I have to convert it to a number for the formula to work.

To convert, and add leading zeros in my Excel spreadsheet (before saving as CSV):
    Highlight the PMI column
    Click the Data tab
    Select 'Text to Columns'
The Convert Text to Columns Wizard opens
Step 1 of 3 Choose Delimited, click Next
Step 2 of 3 uncheck any boxes in Delimiters, all boxes should be blank, click Next
Step 3 of 3 Column data format-General box should be checked, leave destination as is, click Finish
Right click on PMI column, Format Cells, choose Custom, click on any of the existing formats in the Type box and change it to 00000000 (8 zeros for the length of the PMI)

This will add a leading zero to all of the PMIs that aren't 8 characters.

That 8 zero option will also now be saved in the type box for future billings.

Now it can be saved as a CSV file, but remember don't open it. You can go into Notepad and open the file to make sure your leading zeros are still there, this will not remove them.

    I hope this helps!
